This project comprises a carefully considered residential infill extension within the Melbourne Conservation Area, designed to enhance the functionality and spatial quality of the existing dwelling while respecting its historic context. The proposed front extension introduces a contemporary yet understated architectural language, forming a new entrance foyer and re-establishing the relationship between the house and the street. Its scale, massing, and materiality have been sensitively developed to sit comfortably within the conservation setting, complementing the character of the surrounding townscape without competing with it.

Internally, the scheme reconfigures the existing layout to create a more cohesive and open-plan living environment suited to modern family life. The introduction of double-height spaces allows natural light to penetrate deep into the plan, dramatically improving daylight, outlook, and spatial clarity. These vertical volumes create moments of generosity and visual connection between levels, transforming the internal experience of the home while retaining a clear hierarchy of spaces and a strong sense of arrival.
